Friday Five: January 21st

TGIF!

But seriously, TGIF.

The Friday Five is back (as in I started this 2-3 years ago and promptly forgot about it) and it’s here to stay. I mean it. Seriously!

Anyway, the Friday Five will be a combination of things that I like or things that are on my mind that week. It really could be anything. We’ll see where each week takes me!

Let’s get to it.

Dolly Parton

Dolly’s birthday was Wednesday, Jan. 19. I share this because I love Dolly. If you haven’t listened to Dolly Parton’s America yet, I highly recommend it. I may actually re-listen to the series myself. It’s really that good.

I also saw that Draper James is donating one book to Dolly’s Imagination Library for every What Would Dolly Do? item sold, so I thought I’d share. The traveling tumbler is great. You can also donate directly to Dolly’s Imagination Library and check availability to join the program for your kids here.

When We Were Young Festival

As a teenager in the early 2000s, the announcement of the When We Were Young Festival took me right back to freshman year of high school. I remember listening to Dashboard Confessional on my Discman to and from show choir competitions while staring out the window like my life was so hard. I wasn’t emo, but I sure wanted to be.

The When We Were Young Festival looks too good to be true for us elder millennial. And it just might be too good to be true. As many have pointed out since it was announced, it’s a one-day festival and the 60+ acts are supposed to perform over a 12-hour period of time. Even with three stages (or more?), it seems unlikely that every group could perform under the time constraints. It’s also not a good sign that some of the acts have shared their surprise to be included.

Tickets are also non-refundable, which is concerning for the cost. I was excited when the announcement first dropped (because Nebraska has a bye week that week so I could go!) but I think I’m going to wait on this one. I need to see how this plays out first. I’ve seen the Fyre Fest documentaries after all.

Wordle

Like everyone else on this planet, I’m obsessed with Worlde right now. I play it first thing every morning. I’ll admit the word for today (Friday, Jan. 21) made me cackle.

TikTok

Shameless plug, but follow me on TikTok. With that out of the way, I really do enjoy the app quite a bit. I’ve been using it to learn a lot of different tips and tricks for creators, but I also find myself lost in it. The creativity of people is amazing, and I’m trying to personally get better with the app. It’s all a work in progress.

OXO Garlic Press

I was recently married and one of the gifts we received was this OXO Garlic Press. To say I’m over the moon about a garlic press would be an understatement.

Look. I am the worst at mincing garlic. I try and try but I’m just not good at it. This item is life changing for me personally. I was thrilled when it arrived at our door.

Be prepared for some recipe sharing soon. I have a post already in the works, and one does call for garlic (yay garlic press!). Life changing, really.

And with that, my first Friday Five of 2022 has come to a close. Random enough for you? That’s the point.

I hope you’ve had a good week. If it hasn’t been the best, I hope you show yourself some grace. We’re all just doing our best.

Cheers,

Erin

P.S. I just checked and the last time I published a Friday Five was actually 2017. Whoops!
